February 2, 2015 – Camden, NJ – The Camden Education Association, which represents approximately 1,500 teachers and school support employees, reached a tentative settlement last week on a new contract with the Camden City School District. The previous contract expired almost two years ago, just before Superintendent Paymon Rouhanifard was appointed. The tentative settlement was reached on Thursday, February 19 following a marathon 15-hour negotiation session.
Representatives for both sides stated that the settlement represented a perfect example of compromise. Neither side got all they were looking for, but both sides did achieve improvements in their areas of concern.
Both sides agreed that it was unfortunate that it took so long to reach an agreement. They are now looking to move ahead to maintain a positive educational climate.
Both parties agreed that no details or terms of the settlement would be released or revealed until the terms have been ratified and approved by both the Association membership and the District. Following the ratification and approval by both parties, the contract will be finalized and then formally executed. The Association has scheduled a ratification vote to be taken on March 7.
