Lakewood Board Member Resigns Because He is a “Man of Integrity”

This is a resignation letter from Lakewood Board of Education member Herbierto Rodriquez. More to come.

Please let this letter serve as my resignation from the Lakewood Board of Education effective immediately.

It has been a pleasure working with you and all the other board members, but over the last couple of weeks I have found it difficult to support and then accept the decision of accepting the $28,000,000 loan from the state. We all know that the state is fully aware that we cannot repay this loan. I am a man of integrity and I strongly feel that I am misleading the students, faculty, and community in saying “everything is okay…full well knowing that it is not.

With the start of contract negotiations with the union and knowing our virtuous teachers will probably be let go the following year is ludicrous. I cannot and will not be a part of this.

I understand the board has the best intentions for the district, but unfortunately the state does not!

I do wish you and the board all the best in your future endeavors.

  • What happened to "the man of integrity"? He rescinded his resignation last night in the hopes that the board will turn the loan into grant. Right, the state is jumping to change the status of the loan to a grant, because the board says so.
