New Interim Education Commissioner Named for New Jersey

From the New Jersey Globe:

Gov. Phil Murphy has named Kevin Dehmer to serve as interim Commissioner of Education following the departure of Lamont Repollet today.

Repollet will remain in state government as an advisor for the next two weeks and will later assume his new post as president of Kean University.

Murphy has not yet named a replacement.

Dehmer is currently the Assistant Commissioner for Finance and the CEO of the Department of Education.

Murphy praised Repollet’s performance as commissioner.

“Lamont oversaw the expansion of pre-K and facilitated changes to our statewide testing regime while working diligently to pursue equity for our students,” Murphy said.  :He also has helped districts navigate the unique challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, such as transitioning to remote learning and preparing for the school year ahead.”

Repollet is the third member of Murphy’s original cabinet to depart.

Dehmer is a longtime Education Department employee.
