Heads-up to those who think measuring New Jersey students’ learning loss is critical if we are to provide for the needs of students who have been left behind during what could be a year-long school closure.

Today the Senate Education Committee, chaired by Senator Teresa Ruiz, will consider Bill S3214, which  “requires Commissioner of Education to prepare learning loss report and report on public school operations during COVID-19 public health emergency.”

The text of the bill isn’t public yet. Stay tuned for this developing story. Meanwhile, you can consider what America’s leading civil rights groups said in a letter issued last week: “We cannot improve what we do not measure. And if we do not measure the opportunity gaps being exacerbated during COVID-19, we risk losing a generation of young people.”
