NJ Education Report

New Jersey Education Report has learned that Sancha Gray, Superintendent of Asbury Park Schools, resigned earlier today at the public School Board meeting. At the end of the meeting the Board went into Executive Session and shortly after announced her resignation.

Gray was hand-picked by Lamont Repollet when he served as Asbury Park Superintendent; she came over with other administrators from Carteret Public Schools where she was an assistant principal. She was first appointed at Asbury Park as  Director of Curriculum and then as Assistant Superintendent. When Repollet was appointed by Gov. Phil Murphy as Commissioner of Education in 2018, Grary  became Asbury Park Superintendent. Her contract was for five years.

Rumor has it that Repollet, now president of Kean University, will hire her to work at Kean University.

During the meeting the Board eliminated the position of Director of Curriculum, now held by Edwin Ruiz. Like Gray, Repollet brought him over from Carteret Public Schools.

Below is a screenshot of an email from Gray to the district. She recounts her accomplishments and says “the time has come for me to pursue other ventures,” and is resigning, effective June 5th at 5 pm.
