Which School District in Your County Pays Teachers Most Generously?

While K-12 educators are generally underpaid for the critical work they do, sometimes they earn more than you’d think, especially in New Jersey which has some of the highest salaries in the country. Here, for each of our 21 counties, is the district with the highest median salary. For context, the average NJ teacher has an annual salary of $76,000, not including benefits, $11,000 more than the national average.

  • Atlantic County: Margate City, with a median salary of $96,600.
  • Bergen County: Northern Valley Regional, with a median salary of $113,869.
  • Burlington County: Pemberton Township,  with a median salary of $89,14
  • Camden County: Gloucester Township, with a median salary of $88,119.
  • Cape May County: Ocean City, with a median salary of $91,865.
  • Cumberland County: Hopewell Township, with a median salary of $94,375.
  • Essex County: Millburn Township, with a median salary of $94,375.
  • Gloucester County: West Deptford Township, with a median salary of $80,357.
  • Hudson County: Jersey City, with a median salary of $87,130.
  • HunterdonCounty:  Tewksbury Township, with a median salary of $83,468
  • Mercer County: Princeton Public Schools, with a median salary of $86,156.
  • Middlesex County: Edison Township, with a median salary of $96,455.
  • Monmouth County: Freehold Regional, with a median salary of $91,415.
  • Morris County: Morris Hills Regional, with a median salary of $89,415.
  • Ocean County: Southern Regional, with a median salary of $83,400.
  • Passaic County: Passaic County Vocational, with a median salary of $99,152.
  • Salem County: Woodstown-Pilesgrove Regional, with a median salary of $69,996.
  • Somerset County: Warren Township, with a median salary of $82,446.
  • Sussex County: Wallkill Valley Regional, with a median salary of $94,889.
