Who are you?

What defines you?

How do you see yourself?

How do you want others to see you?

These important questions were posed to elementary school students at KIPP TRUTH Academy for their most recent art project celebrating the close of Black History Month. At KIPP TRUTH, the public charter network’s sixth and newest Newark school, students answered enthusiastically.

This project is called “I am” and focuses on identity. The children reflected not only on how they view themselves but also how they want others to view them, learning that, despite physical and cultural differences, we can find some commonalities through art. Enjoy this gallery of budding artists and thinkers!
