How far will Asbury Park Superintendent Rashawn Adams go with his vendetta against the district’s long-time Athletic Director Mark Gerbino, just two days ago demoted to “Administrator on Special Assignment” at Wednesday’s school board meeting?
This far:
Adams’ animus towards Gerbino appears personal. When the Asbury Park Education Association asked staff members to rank their choices to replace outgoing Superintendent Sancha Gray (she had accepted a job with her former boss Lamont Repollet, now president of Kean University), members ranked Gerbino first and Adams last. Then there’s their litigious warfare over Gerbino’s recommendation for head basketball, described here.
But really? In a 1,700-student district where cost per pupil (according to new calculations) is $41,079 per student per year?
Where, according to the DOE database, the ratio of students to administrators is one of the highest in the state?
Meanwhile, sources say, other administrators who share blame in the football fiasco (10 students were misclassified as ineligible for varsity sports), like the former and current high school principal, suffer no consequences.
Hey, it’s strictly business, not personal.
