After a year and a half of virtual/hybrid learning, Newark students are preparing to go back to the classroom. Outside of the typical nerves of the back-to-school season, students and families are also facing additional financial and community health stressors.

To alleviate some of these concerns, KIPP TEAM Academy hosted a “Back 2 School Giveaway” for students and families across Newark. With the beginning of the school year around the corner, the giveaway allowed families an opportunity to receive groceries and school supplies to prepare for a return to the classroom.

KIPP Life Academy and Peshine Avenue Elementary school students and families were also in attendance. In addition to the giveaway, walk-up COVID-19 vaccinations and tests were offered and representatives from Newark Emergency Rental Assistance were in attendance to provide service referrals. The event was in partnership with Councilman Anibal Ramos and the County of Essex.

KIPP’s school year officially begins Monday, August 23. Enjoy the photos!
