Art teacher Rebecca Lee had only started working at Camden’s KIPP Lanning Square Primary School Norcross Academy mid-year, but she knew she wanted to show her students that they themselves are works of art.

Inspired by Lorraine O’Grady’s 1983 performance and photos titled “Art is…” during Harlem’s African-American Day Parade, Rebecca creatively used GoFundMe to get frames. Students decorated the frames for their end-of-year art project, and their classroom became a museum of beaming smiles as they followed Rebecca in proclaiming, “I am a work of art! I am complex! I am beautiful! And I am powerful!”

Are they ever! Enjoy the photos.
