The email below cancelling tonight’s game against Keansburg just went out to all Asbury High School staff members. Due to “an unfortunate series of events,”  the Blue Bishops Homecoming game, which recognizes senior high school students, cheerleaders, and includes a homecoming court with crowns for the king and queen, will be forfeited.

Asbury Park had to forfeit its first game of the season because only 8 players were eligible to participate, a result of NJSIAA rules that say students must be up to date on coursework and credit completion. The following week superintendent Rashawn Adams made a surprise announcement that an additional 10 players were suddenly eligible to play football.

Good Afternoon APHS Team,

As you may be aware, the Homecoming Football game for this evening has been canceled. In an unfortunate series of events, threats were made to both the Asbury Park and Keansburg police departments which led to Keansburg electing to forfeit the game out of an abundance of caution.

While this is disappointing news for our athletes, families, and the larger community we look forward to celebrating our fall athletes with this afternoon’s Pep Rally and making the afternoon as special as possible for them.

We look forward to the Neptune Rivalry where we will hold our senior recognition ceremony and the homecoming king and queen crowning. Thank you all!

Yours in education,

Bridgett O’Neill, Asbury High School principal
